Marvin: From a Rural Crossroads to a Preserved Union County Village

Marvin was incorporated on July 1, 1994, after generations as a farming crossroads once part of Anson County until Union County was created in 1842. The Waxhaw tribe once inhabited the land, and the English, Scottish, and German families who later settled it farmed soil surveyor John Lawson called too fertile to exhaust “in one or two ages.” Marvin’s 2004 land use plan protected that open, low-density character as the population grew from just over 1,000 in 2000 to more than 6,300 by 2020, and the village opened its own Village Hall near Marvin Elementary School in April 2022. South Charlotte Services sees that mix of preserved rural land and new estate construction in Marvin Creek and Firethorne, where great rooms now sit on ground farmed two centuries ago. Builder’s Insight: Why Furring Strips Matter on Stacked Stone

Marvin Creek and Firethorne’s stacked stone fireplaces are often cultured stone adhered to a wood furring strip, not solid masonry block. An anchor that misses that strip has nothing real to hold onto, no matter how deep the bit goes. John Clay checks the fireplace’s actual build before drilling on every Marvin job, locating the framing rather than guessing from the stone pattern, so an 85″ display stays exactly where it’s mounted.

Who this isn’t for: homeowners wanting a same-day, no-assessment install on a stacked stone or masonry wall are better served elsewhere. South Charlotte Services checks the wall’s actual construction before it drills.
