Width
65.4″
Height
36.8″
Add 1–2″ to each dimension for the bezel around the screen, especially for tight cabinets or between-wall installs.
For a 75″ TV, a viewing distance of about 10 feet gives a comfortable field of view. Need help mounting it at the right height and angle?

See the Size Difference: 65″ vs 75″
Numbers on paper don’t always show the real-world size. Here’s how much bigger a 75″ TV is than a 65″ when you’re planning a Charlotte living room or bonus room.
65″ TV
56.7″ wide · Most popular size
75″ TV
65.4″ wide · Nearly 9″ wider
That extra 10 inches diagonal is almost a foot more width. Verify with the calculator above before committing to a 75″ or 85″ in a smaller room.
How to Use This Calculator
No formulas needed. Enter the diagonal, and it instantly gives you usable width and height for real mounting decisions.
Find Your TV Size
Check the box, manual, or model number. The diagonal is usually in the name, like “Samsung 65-inch” or “LG OLED 77.”
Enter It Above
Use the slider or type the diagonal, pick the aspect ratio, and the calculator instantly shows exact width and height.
Plan Your Mounting Safely
Use the width and height to check console size, fireplace opening, stud locations, and safe mounting height before you drill.

How High Should You Mount It?
Once you know your TV’s exact height, aim to keep the center of the screen close to seated eye level to reduce neck strain.
- Measure seated eye height from the floor, usually 40-42″ for most adults on a sofa.
- Use the calculator’s screen height and aim to place the TV’s center at about that eye height.
- For most 55-75″ TVs in Charlotte living rooms, this puts the TV center roughly 40-48″ from the floor.
Builder’s note: over fireplaces, we often have to mount higher than ideal eye level. A tilting or full-motion mount can angle the TV down to reduce neck strain and glare while staying inside local code clearances for mantels and combustibles.

Common Questions About TV Screen Sizes
How are TV sizes actually measured?
TVs are measured diagonally from one visible corner of the screen to the opposite corner, not including the bezel or frame. Run a tape from the top-left of the lit picture to the bottom-right, and that diagonal in inches is the advertised size, like 55″, 65″, or 75″.
What’s the difference between screen size and total TV size?
Screen size is just the viewing area measured diagonally, while total TV size includes the bezel and frame around it. For tight cabinets, between-wall installs, or built-ins, always measure the full width and height of the TV, not just the diagonal.
How wide is a 65 inch TV?
On a standard 16:9 TV, a 65″ screen is about 56.7 inches wide and 31.9 inches tall. With the bezel added, real-world width is usually closer to 57-58 inches, which is why it’s smart to leave extra space on your console or wall.
How far should I sit from my TV?
For modern 4K TVs, sit about 1 to 1.5 times the screen diagonal away to keep the viewing angle comfortable without seeing pixels. A 65″ TV is comfortable at around 8-10 feet, and a 75″ TV feels right at roughly 9-12 feet for most Charlotte living rooms.
Is a 75 inch TV too big for my room?
A 75″ TV usually makes sense if you can sit at least about 9 feet back, up to around 12 feet for a more relaxed feel. If your sofa is closer than 8 feet, a 65″ is often a better balance between immersion and comfort, especially in smaller South Charlotte and Matthews family rooms.
How do I know if my TV is too big for my stand?
Your TV should be at least a few inches narrower than your stand on each side, ideally 6-12 inches narrower overall so it doesn’t look top-heavy. If the TV width equals or exceeds the console, it can look awkward and be easier to bump or tip.
Can you help me choose and mount the right TV size in Charlotte?
Yes. After using this calculator, South Charlotte Services can double-check your measurements on-site and pick a safe mounting height, bracket, and wiring plan for your wall type. As a retired builder with over 30 years of experience in Charlotte and Union County, John Clay’s goal is to make sure the TV fits your room, your furniture, and your family’s needs perfectly.
